-Children in sports have higher academic standings.
and/or
-The fine arts are all funded by the school and the sports "boosters" raise a lot of their own money.
I'm sure I'll come across another few counter arguments but I feel confident in my knowledge of the subject.
I hope you guys had a wonderful break!
Sydney you will probably find quite a few naysayers on your chosen topic for I do feel that most are more inclined toward sports than fine arts unfornuately.. This would be a statement I woiuld love for you to prove wrong!*
ReplyDeleteGreat debatable topic! When I was in high school our high school boys basketball team received new uniforms every year. The girls team may have received new uniformed once every four years. Our marching band, who had more achievements than our ball teams were wearing 25 year old uniforms! There can be unfairness on multiple levels within even one school district. In high school the cheerleaders had to purchase their own uniforms. The kicker was that some how we were roped into buying our uniforms but were not allowed to keep them. The school kept them. As a matter of fact the school is still using those uniforms 15 years later! I tell you this because I did not experience a situation where the school provided anything for the fine arts programs. Our school did not have booster clubs to help raise money, the students had to do all that. Good luck on your paper!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful topic. I think the school system sees sports as an extra income because typically football and basketball draw crowds of people who are willing to pay to see these sports. It definitely isn't fair and I agree that the fine arts programs should receive the same amount of funding as the sports program do.
